Thanksgiving Week, begun at President and Sister Burk's casa with all the other missionaries. It was quite the feast. For those of you who don't know them, el Presidente y Hermana Burk are fourth and fifth from the left on the front row. President Burk is sitting next to an FBI agent and his wife, visiting for a few days. In his old life, President Burk also worked for "the bureau." I am amazed that in just a month's time, we have come to love and enjoy the people in this photo.
We had Thanksgiving twice, with the group above on Monday the 24th and again on Thursday the 27th with our apartamento neighbors, the Allreds. Sister Allred is on the third row center, grew hair and blue top. You can see her husband behind Dad and me.
As you all remember, we've prepared letters and treats for "Thankful Families" for years. The Allreds were our choice here this year, and we walked to a nearby plant nursery to buy mint and oregano plants. Sister Allred is a good cook and her husband is growing an herb garden on our combined roof. A couple of hours after we presented our letter and plants, they invited us back to have our second Thanksgiving dinner with them.
Sister Burk officially asked me to be the temple organist, whenever my duties do not require me to be elsewhere. With that in mind, I experimented with the Kawai electronic piano/organ and found it has wonderful sounds. I can now switch convincingly between "stops" as I move from verse to verse of hymns. This little instrument has no pedal board, but is enchanting anyway. I tried it on a group of young people waiting to do baptisms, with satisfying results....and now it's time to start Christmas music!
Love to all,
Missionary Mom
