Querido Familia y Amigos:
Feliz Dia de la Madres, or Happy Mother's Day! I'm posting a basket of cookies and a basket of geraniums. If either catches your fancy, you can buy some on Monday. :-) Actually, one of the secretaries gave me two large cookies as a Mother's Day gift. She's one of my favourites and calls me "Preciosa." This started when she gave me the wrong study card for one of the ordinances and felt chagrinned. If that's what it takes, I'll be happy to be given the wrong card any time! We did give the secretaries and the obreros (workers) cookies and a cake for fun. Usually I take flowers and Hermana Allred takes over cakes that she and her husband can't finish.

The basket of geraniums above is similar to one that the Eberhards left me. It has purple, pink and red blooms and is currently sitting on the bottom stair of our backyard circular staircase, until Dad and I borrow the Allreds' pliers and repair some broken links in the hanging chains. Several blossoms are sitting on our dining table.
Happy Birthday to Shawn last Tuesday (he's a big 43! Doesn't that sound like what we say when a child turns the next year older?) Happy Birthday this coming week to Creed and Brooks Brady! Looks like a lot of cake and ice cream will be eaten, except by Shawn who has left for an eight-day gruelling bike race.

Yesterday Dad and I had a fun morning, led by the Spirit. This is similar to Nephi being led by the Spirit in the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 4:6 -- only we didn't have to cut off anyone's head! I caught the flu on Tuesday and had been indoors all week. This was a wonderful medicine trip for the mind.
We started with the flower vendor where we bought a dozen roses. Then we went across the street to Isopan, where we bought gluten-free bread for me and cookies and a cake for the temple workers (see above), and I gave the girl behind the counter a rose. I knew from the Spirit that I was to get a haircut and go to a certain clothing store. I didn't know why, since I only slightly needed a haircut. I do need new blouses. So Dad and I went to haircut shop. Dad left for Walmart. I got a cut by my favorite beautician and asked about her two children. Her 3-yr-old son is named Gabriel and the mother's name is Angelica. I didn't get to ask about her little girl. After I asked to see them, Angelica was busy showing photos of the children to everyone in the salon. When my hair was shorter and I had received a great scalp massage, I left her with a rose as well.
I went back to the clothing store and tried on their blouses: too small but the clerk assured me they'd be getting new ones soon. The store was filled with fall-colored sweaters. I don't know why. It's still May!!! I did buy a necklace I'd liked the last time I was there, and another one in the store window. Maybe the Lord knew I needed a complete pick-me-up.
At home I took roses to my neighbour Hermana Allred, who had the same flu I caught. I also took one upstairs to Hermana Thompson, who has been a champion of us sister seniors taking care of ourselves. Both of these sisters have had cancer. Three weeks after Hermana Thompson arrived, she fell and broke both legs. She should know about being wise with health. The three of us visited for awhile.
All in all, it was wonderful therapy.

Dad and I watched another great "Mormon Messages" video this morning, one about a young man going out of his way to include a friend who suffers from cerebral palsy. Occasionally we have people with various disabilities in the temple, from wheelchairs to deafness. Last week I helped a sister who couldn't read.
With this inspiring video, I'll end this week's post. I think you'll agree we could all be more like the young man who was "Dayton's Legs". I love that he said he was just doing what the Saviour would do, if He had been there.
Love to you all,
