We begin our weeks with laughter. I got the chuckle I was hoping for when Dad walked into our apartment and saw Smoky in his chair. Then for more fun (?) we helped pull a workman out of a sewer excavation. We've been watching little well-like openings almost since we arrived. They are on one side of a park we like for walking. Here are the photos of the cute young man who was doing the pulling up of a plastic barrel, usually used for getting the next load of dirt out of the hole. I had fun waving to him each day we walked by, until he wasn't there. This week on our walk, I noticed the rope was waving above the "well". When it happened more than once, I wondered to Dad if someone might be stuck down there. We didn't see a soul around, so went back to see if we could help. Sure enough, a man really was in the hole. Dad and I winched him up on an old-time windlass. |
This week's flora and fauna report:
The dog was on top of a nearby apartment. The flowers were all huge, the "lily" on a vine nearly as big as a dinner plate. The bulb-looking flower is the lily in bud. The purple cluster was a foot long. We saw them on our way to Paiz, a grocery store within walking distance of our apartment.

Medical report:
Dad as usual is doing the best ever. We are losing nine (9!) of our missionaries between now and the end of June (they are ending their missions and going home), leaving very few of us to complete the year with President and Pat Burk. It's a really good thing that I brought Dad here. He is needed! So far we have received no one to replace the leaving missionaries, and we have no news of anyone coming.
My medications are settling in better, and I was in the temple every day this week. That completes goal 1 as I keep moving forward. Next week, Goal 2: I am increasing the time I'm there.
Successes:
I received lots of compliments on my prelude music for our preparation meetings. This continues to surprise me.
We walked six out of seven days this week.
Dad and I completed three days of really good Spanish study together, before we shifted our schedule again. Now that the weather is getting warmer -- some days -- we want to be out walking first thing.

Actual and possible art projects:
The left photo is of our flowers from the past two weeks. We bought them before they were out of bud, so they have lasted a long time. The variegated carnation would make a great ballerina tutu or be the inspiration for a lovely embroidered skirt.
The right photo is of my digital art fun.....I call it "Glasses Salesman"!
